Mr. Jim Anthony, 78 of Noblesville, Indiana passed away Thursday, April 23, 1998. Jim had been active with the band from 1957 - 1975. He served as Assistant Director and Band Manager under Harvey Gill. Jim recently has been visiting rehearsals and sharing his memories of the band with our newer members.
Jim served as organist for Meadlawn Christian Church in Indianapolis. He was active with the Senior Citizens Center in Noblesville and recently completed a term as President. He was retired from Indiana Bell Telephone.
It was a definite pleasure to know and work with Jim and his physical presence with us will be sorely missed. The message on the inside cover of the remembrance notice from the funeral home says it best:
That great time of year in Central Indiana is upon US _ the Summertime Construction Season! The entire ramp system to access Post Road from East or West bound 1 70 is closed and will remain so throughout the summer months. (Some band members learned of this rude awakening last week a, their way to rehearsal. )
To make things simple_those of you traveling east on 1 70 should exit onto Shadeland Avenue South then turn east on 21st Street. Continue on 21st Street to Post Road then turn right at Post and continue into WPAC as you normally did. Those traveling vest on 1 70 should bypass Post Road and exit at Shadeland Avenue, again going south to 21st Street and then east.
Those traveling via 1465 should exit at Washington Street (US 40) and proceed east to Post Road then north to 16th Street then east.
We are entering the band's busiest time of year. We have many major events coming up that will need EVERYONE'S help and support to be successful and put our best fool forward for the public to see! Please make every effort to be present for Family Jamboree, 500 Race, Homeplace Parade, Shakedown, Fishers Festival and 4th of July Parade Details on these events will be found on the pages inside.
Keep this newsletter handy as it has all the information you will need
for the BIG activities in the next few months! If you haven't been around,
don't let that stop you from helping make us shine!
The Council's Steak n Shake Family Jamboree is Saturday May 2nd at Deer Creek Music Center. The band will not be camping, but we WILL be performing during the event. In addition, we will have a display set up highlighting the band's history, recruiting new members and answering any questions the public or scouts and scouters might have.
Our performance time is from 12 noon - 1 00 pm and we will be playing at the area of our display tent. This is scheduled to be located on the north side of Deer Creek near the black chain link fence area. Please report at 11:00 a.m. in uniform so we can be ready to start playing at 12 noon. If you need a uniform, the band will have its loaners available but arrive early so that you can get sized and have a chance to change.
Dixieland will play ONE OR TWO numbers during the full concert, and then have a show of their own (if desired) outside the display during the afternoon. If you are camping with your troop and want to leave your instrument Friday with the band truck you may do so if its there by 7:30 p.m., but you will need to take it with you after the close of the display since that will be dismantled and gone before you leave on Sunday. Any questions, call Bill at 542-8057.
